What are Probiotics

Human body contains around 40 trillion of bacterial cell, while our body cell counts 30 trillion, that’s why we are more ‘bacterial’ than ‘human’. Most of the bacteria, good and bad, live in the gut, they are called gut microbiome. Our immune system mostly depends on the microbial balance, where good or friendly bacteria produces necessary vitamins and metabolites. These good bacteria are called Probiotic.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), “Probiotics are live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host”. This definition clearly states that probiotics are safeguard of the human health that provides multiple health benefits along with fighting mechanism against deadly pathogens.

Probiotics are mainly found in fermented foods like yogurt, pickles, cheese, and natural sources like half-ripe banana, apple cider vinegar, avocado, garlic, asparagus etc.

Also, you can get probiotics from dietary supplements, but this should be consulted by your doctor to make sure that you are on the right track to finish the complicated race.
